Feeding South Dakota bracing for uncertainty ahead

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO) — The Government shutdown has left thousands of federal workers and contractors, including those at the Eros Data Center near Sioux Falls, without paychecks. The chaos in Washington also threatens potential gaps in SNAP and WIC benefits.

Nearly 75,000 South Dakotans, including 33,000 children, depend on the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program to buy groceries. There is a genuine concern that those could go away at the end of the month. Feeding South Dakota did lose some government assistance, and like everyone, is dealing with the uncertainty of what is happening in Washington.

“So we are really looking at what we can do with our programs so that we can continue to feed the same number of people, it might not be at the same level we’ve always done in the past, but we want to make sure that we can still extend our services to those who need it,” said Susanne Gayle a Senior Development Officer at Feeding South Dakota…
