Sioux Falls City Council to decide on filling seat after Cole resigns

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO) — With At-Large City Council Member, Sarah Cole announcing her resignation on December 3, council members will take a vote to decide who will serve out the rest of her term.

The city council will establish the procedure at their next meeting on Wednesday, November 12.

According to the Sioux Falls code of ordinances, a vacancy in the city council will be filled for the remainder of the unexpired term. The remaining council members, by a majority vote, will appoint a qualified person for the remainder of the term. If they fail to do so, 30 days after the vacancy, a special election will be held between 90 and 120 days after the vacancy.
