SNAP recipients impacted by partial benefits

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO) — Cars are lined up for the Faith Temple Food Giveaway two hours before its start. The government shutdown ended Wednesday night, two days after South Dakota SNAP recipients typically receive their money. Although they now have some of their benefits for November, it’s not enough for most.

“Well, I get $68 a month and all I’ve gotten is $16. What do you get with $16?” said John Foltz, who was waiting in line for the giveaway.

SNAP recipients received only some of what they would normally get in a month, and nearly all recipients didn’t get their money until at least a day after it was expected.

“It’s just with the economy and the price the way it is, it really wasn’t as big of a help,” said Joanne King, a SNAP recipient waiting at the food giveaway…
