Lester, Iowa — The Lyon County Sheriff’s Office says a man was found deceased early Tuesday morning on railroad tracks near Lester following an overnight multi-agency search. The incident began around 12:47 a.m. on November 25, 2025, when Woodbury County officials contacted Lyon County asking for help locating a 26-year-old male with special needs believed to have boarded a northbound train from Sioux City.

Woodbury County shared the man’s phone data, showing his last known location near Lester.Lyon County Sheriff’s Office (LCSO) dispatch contacted the railroad, confirmed a northbound train in the area, and requested it stop so crews could search. The train halted inside Minnesota, where railroad staff and law enforcement searched but were unable to locate the man.
Lester Fire Department and LCSO deputies launched a ground search near the last phone location, deploying a drone to assist. At approximately 3:54 a.m., deputies located the male deceased on the railroad tracks.
