Sioux Falls Police responded to two kidnappings Wednesday afternoon. The first case involves a 15-year-old girl who met someone she’d believed to be a 16-year-old boy on social media. Police say it turned out to be 20-year-old Shabani Ngwefu, who allegedly took her to his apartment and assaulted her. He now faces numerous charges.
New details in kidnapping, sexual contact case
The second alleged kidnapping happened at a western Sioux Falls store, not far from the mall, where a man left the store with his friend’s son. Police arrested 42-year-old Olu Dweh took the 6-year-old and booked a hotel room, where police later arrested him. The child was unharmed.

Betty Cross entered an Alford plea to an amended charge of 2nd degree kidnapping. Cross faces up to five years in prison. Cross took a 7-month-old child to Michigan in February. An Alford plea allows defendants to maintain their innocence while acknowledging that sufficient evidence exists for a conviction.
