Shelters prepare for more guests due to cold weather

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO) — As colder temperatures come to Sioux Falls, more people look for a warm place to sleep. Between The Bishop Dudley and St. Francis Houses, 330 people can be protected from the weather.

“I think we’re close to about 180 right now. And right now all of our beds are actually full,” said Troy Ponto, program director at St. Francis House.

“We have 100 beds for individuals,” said Madeline Shields, executive director for the Bishop Dudley Hospitality House. “We have 80 beds for men and 20 beds for women. However, our capacity is usually between 145 and 150. And the city code allows us to shelter 155 individuals.”…
