Project Warm-Up celebrates 20th anniversary

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO) — Today, Project Warm-Up had its 20th annual blanket-making event.

The organization makes, collects and distributes fleece blankets for kids in the Sioux Falls School District. Any leftover blankets go to other nonprofits. Project Warm-Up started with a high-schooler and her mom working on a service project.

“That first year there were 20 kids, my husband and I, and our other daughter, and we made 100 blankets in one day at the Instructional Planning Center,” said Tracy Vik, Project Warm-Up founder.

“And each year it’s just gotten a little bit bigger. Now I’m the principal here at Sonia Sotomayor, so we’ve been doing this here for ten years, and we have a great crowd, as you can see.” Tracy Vik said…
