South Dakota wakes up locked in deep winter, with bitter air stinging faces and crunching underfoot. Wind slides across open fields, pushing already brutal temperatures into dangerous territory as the morning unfolds.

According to the National Weather Service in Sioux Falls, a Cold Weather Advisory remains in effect until 10 a.m. Central Time. Wind chills as low as 28 to 30 degrees below zero are impacting Sioux Falls and much of eastern South Dakota.
