Dakota Butcher opens Sioux Falls location

Dakota Butcher has opened its Sioux Falls location just in time for last-minute holiday shopping.

The store spans more than 8,000 square feet at The Bridges at 57th at 57th Street and Western Avenue and is the seventh location for Dakota Butcher in South Dakota.

Owners Randy and Karen Gruenwald acquired the business in 2009. They’re based in Watertown but have family in Sioux Falls.

“I really like the store. I think it looks really good,” Karen Gruenwald said. “We’ve had a lot of people just come in and walk around. … They said, ‘We’ll be back.’ It feels good to be open.”

Some customers stopped by as soon as the doors opened today, including those who know the business from its other locations.

The Sioux Falls store features a 36-foot meat counter loaded with meats and seafood.

“We try to put out a lot of varieties that are unique to our own butcher shop,” Randy Gruenwald said. “We make our own (meat) sticks and sausages. You don’t find ring bologna anymore like we make. We try to make things no one else does. Find that niche that no one else does and we try to perfect that niche.”

Bread and buns are baked fresh daily.

There’s also an 8-foot display of grab-and-go meals, plus a selection of take-and-bake pizzas.

“They can take and bake, or we can bake them here in about four and a half minutes,” Karen Gruenwald said.

Dakota Butcher includes a section of grocery items, including locally made pickled foods, seasonings and Dimock Cheese products…
