Avoid AI-generated scams this holiday

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO) — Scammers are known for their deceptive methods, often convincing their victims into believing something that isn’t true. Now, experts are warning people about their newest approach— using AI to make these scams seem even more realistic.

“We are seeing an increase reported to the BBB tracker across the country. It doesn’t really target geographically. They’re just casting a very wide net,” Jessie Schmidt with the Better Business Bureau said.

It might start with a website that offers guaranteed delivery just in time for the holidays.

“They have a live customer service number at the bottom, they have a physical address, they’ve got all of your favorite products on there,” Schmidt said. “And they’re at a little bit of a discounted price, not deeply discounted, but at a price that’s attractive.”…
