For much of 2025, Mike Dill could keep an eye on multiple signature projects for Lloyd Construction out the window of his office at The Steel District in downtown Sioux Falls.
“It’s unique to see on a daily basis how our work is impacting the Big Sioux River and Falls Park,” said Dill, executive vice president of construction.
For Lloyd Construction, 2025 brought the completion of several multiyear projects, including a segment of the River Greenway that included reconstruction of the low-head dam in the Big Sioux River and the multifaceted Jacobson Plaza at Falls Park, which includes an ice ribbon, dog park, splash pad, The Lodge Bar & Grill and the city’s largest playground.
“When Jacobson Plaza opened in July, I saw right away out my window that it was just packed full of kids, and that was exciting to see because we don’t have anything like it around here, and we were honored to build it,” Dill said. “And now when I drive home at night past the ice ribbon, I see it’s getting a lot of traffic. The area surrounding The Steel District has been activated with so much new infrastructure.”
The River Greenway includes expanded pedestrian and gathering space, including Lloyd Landing, and it involved coordinating with multiple entities to finish construction of the dam that will support improved water levels for years to come.
“It was something unique we’ve never done before,” Dill said. “It’s obviously changed the landscape of what the Falls looks like.”
While those two projects helped define Lloyd Construction’s work in Sioux Falls this year, on the western side of the state, Block 5 finished construction and represented the company’s biggest project in the Black Hills.
