Sioux Falls is dealing with an unexpected shortage right now, and no, it’s not snowplows, coffee, or patience during rush hour on 41st Street. Its mentors. Specifically, adults willing to step up and make a difference in the lives of young, school-age kids.
January happens to be National Mentoring Month, which makes the timing especially fitting. And while Sioux Falls has some truly amazing mentors already doing the work, the city is still searching for more everyday heroes willing to lend a little time, guidance, and encouragement.
According to Dakota News Now, the city made a major push back in September of last year to recruit mentors for students at Cleveland, Anne Sullivan, and Terry Redlin elementary schools.

The goal was to secure around 75 mentors by the end of 2025.
Unfortunately, only 36 people raised their hands, about half of what was needed, leaving dozens of kids still waiting for a positive role model…
