Sometimes, when it’s a cold, gray day and the wind is whipping up snow, or the wind chill is hovering around 20 below, some of us wonder what it is that keeps us living in South Dakota.
Then I look around and remember. I love living in Sioux Falls and calling this beautiful state my home. It’s not a feeling that is singular either. Pigeon 605 is reporting that South Dakota is experiencing more people moving into our state than moving out of it.

The study was done by the U-Haul company and showed South Dakota with a “50.9 percent positive in-migration score,” bringing our state to 18th in terms of states with more people moving in than out.
There are several reasons why our state continues to attract new residents. One of the biggest reasons is money. South Dakota has no state income tax, which helps people keep more of what they earn.
