Red Freightliner in fatal hit and run, patrol says

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO) — A red Freightliner Cascada semi, missing its passenger side headlight, is the vehicle authorities are searching for in a fatal hit-and-run Saturday morning near Humboldt, the South Dakota Highway Patrol said in a social media post Friday.

The semi hit a vehicle pulling off to the side of Interstate 90 at about 2:30 a.m. Saturday and left the scene, the state Department of Public Safety said in a Wednesday news release.

KELOLAND News contacted the DPS on Thursday and a spokesman said then there were few details available then about the semi and trailer involved in the hit and run that killed a Mitchell woman, 64.

Either information at the scene or a witness helped authorities determine it was a semi and trailer that struck the victim’s vehicle, Brad Reiners, the director of communications for the South Dakota Department of Public Safety DPS, said Thursday…
