Ice fishing shacks falling through ice on Lake Poinsett

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO) – Warm weather and high winds have been impacting the ice at Lake Poinsett, causing a popular ice fishing tournament to be cancelled and ice shacks falling through the ice.

The Hamlin County Sheriff’s Office posted an alert about anyone with an ice shack on Lake Poinsett to remove it.

“The Hamlin County Sheriff’s Office and Hamlin County Emergency Management have received reports of a couple shacks had gone through the ice,” the social media post said.

The Lake Poinsett Association posted a photo of a ice shack sinking into the lake.
