2 Rapid City schools on secure status after nearby gunshots

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO) — Two schools are on secure status after gunshots were heard in the area, the Rapid City Police Department says.

Shortly before 1 p.m. MT, RCPD posted on social media multiple units are currently on scene at the intersection of Prairie Avenue and Tallent Street for a report of gunshots was made. Witnesses reported seeing suspects run into a nearly residence after hearing the gunshots.

There are several shell casing just outside the house, police say. They are currently working to get the occupants out of the house.

The location is close to South Park Elementary School, however there are no indications the incident is related to the school. Police say South Park Elementary and South Middle School are currently on secure status as a precaution…
