Data center re-zone petition fails in Sioux Falls

SIOUX FALLS, S.,D. (KELO) — A referendum petition related to a proposed data center in northeastern Sioux Falls has failed to get the required number of valid signatures, the city said on Friday afternoon.

The petition called for voter approval on a city ordinance adopted on Jan. 6, to rezone property south of East Rice Street and east of North Veterans Parkway. A developer has proposed a data center on about 160 acres on that site.

The petition needed 6,704 valid signatures and it had 5,012 signatures, according to the city clerk’s office. The required number of signatures is based on 5% of the registered voters in the municipality.
