TenHaken announces new ‘Sanford District’ in downtown

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO) — With the announcement that Smithfield Foods will move from its longtime location next to Falls Park to Foundation Park, T. Denny Sanford has donated about $50 million to help develop the current Smithfield site into a new downtown district.

Sanford will donate $50 million to the Sioux Falls Development Foundation to help take over the site.

Sioux Falls Mayor Paul TenHaken announced that the space currently occupied by Smithfield will become a new district downtown called the “Sanford District.”

“If you take the Smithfield footprint and lay it over our existing downtown, it basically goes from KELO to Startup Sioux Falls, Argus over to the viaduct. That’s what 120 acres looks like, so it’s a whole other downtown,” TenHaken said…
