SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO) — Smithfield CEO Shane Smith said at their announcement the new facility will be state-of-the-art, with new technology and a larger capacity for hog processing. Pork producers believe the new plant is investing in the future of agriculture.

Smithfield’s move to a new facility promises a future for pork producers and for those that supply them.
“South Dakota is known for raising corn and soybean production and stuff,” owner of Odegaard Family Farms Shane Odegaard said. “Those are the two major feed ingredients that go into feeding livestock and hogs in general. It’s good for the whole ag sector in general.”
