Sioux Falls, South Dakota – Any spark along I-29 could spread quickly between noon and 6 p.m. Monday as wind gusts near 40 mph combine with dry grasses to create high fire danger across eastern South Dakota.

According to the National Weather Service in Sioux Falls, mild and dry conditions paired with increasing southerly winds will elevate fire weather concerns mainly along and west of I-29. Peak fire danger is expected from 12 p.m. to 6 p.m. Monday, when humidity levels drop and sustained winds strengthen. Officials classify grassland fire danger as high in areas including Mitchell, Huron and Chamberlain, with moderate to high conditions extending toward Sioux Falls and Brookings…
