‘Open for business:’ Wenck delivers Harrisburg’s first State of the City address

HARRISBURG, S.D. — When Derick Wenck first moved to Harrisburg in 2006, it was a lot different.

The city consisted of about 2,400 people, and only two school buildings existed in town. There were a couple gas stations, a couple churches and a couple bars. No stop lights, no Lake Ole and certainly no McDonald’s.

Fast forward a couple decades, and Wenck now serves as mayor of a different Harrisburg. One with a population encroaching 12,000 people, and ranking among the fastest growing cities in South Dakota…
