Defense rests in 8th Street bridge murder trial

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO)– The defense has rested its case after Minnehaha County jurors heard from a doctor in a Sioux Falls murder trial.

Jubal Rattler is accused of second-degree murder in the 2025 death of Doris High Elk. Prosecutors say Rattler shoved High Elk off a wall in central Sioux Falls. She died last July from her injuries.

A doctor who testified for the defense said Monday that the victim had tripped and hit her head on the same day she had fallen from the 8th Street bridge area on June 30, 2025. He testified that there is no way to tell from the autopsy how quickly the blood had spread in her brain, or which fall created the injury that caused her death.

Both the defense and the prosecution have rested, meaning no more witnesses, evidence, or testimony will be presented in this case. Jurors will hear final instructions and closing arguments from both the prosecution and the defense on Tuesday morning, before breaking for deliberation…
