CROOKS, S.D. (KELO) — Most of the crowd at Monday’s Smithfield meeting in Crooks broke into applause when Marilyn Fisher said, “You have the wrong location.”

Fisher told representatives of Smithfield, the city of Sioux Falls and the Sioux Falls Development Foundation that the planned $1.3 billion Smithfield plant in the Foundation Park the plant should not be so close to Minnehaha County Highway 130 and the city of Crooks.
She suggested the plant be moved to what she called the Sioux Falls Regional Livestock by Worthing. Sioux Falls Regional Livestock is an auction market, according to its website.
KELOLAND News was at about one hour of the meeting which started a 7 p.m. Many of the concerns and questions Monday were similar to those shared by many Crooks or nearby-Crooks residents at a March 5 Sioux Falls Planning Commission meeting.
Foundation Park is in the Sioux Falls city limits but Minnehaha County Highway 130 functions as the boundary between Sioux Falls and the city limits of Crooks. Highway 130 is at the north end of Foundation Park and will be used as entrance and exit for the Smithfield plant…
