SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (Dakota News Now) -On this edition of Throwback Thursday, Lori Kent with the Local Lou Podcast tells us about former Sioux Falls mayor George Burnside.
“I thought we would kind of look back on a mayor of Sioux Falls. So, this is one of our early mayors, George Burnside. Now, that name might sound familiar. You may have driven down Burnside Street. Or, maybe you’ve been to Burnside Park. So, obviously, his legacy is sprinkled throughout the city of Sioux Falls,” said Kent.
“He was born in New York in 1858. His family moved to Iowa for a couple of years, where they did that whole ‘prairie life’ thing. They have a farm, and he’s going to a one-room schoolhouse. You know, just exactly what you’d expect of the time period.”…
