Six charged in February Sioux Falls kidnapping and assault case

Six suspects have been charged after a kidnapping and assault earlier this year, said Capt. Josh Phillips, with the Minnehaha County Sheriff’s Office, on April 13.

Isaiah Ackerman, 21; Michael Elliott, 19; Karrie Ellis, 32; Brendon Ellis, 28; Caleb Mitz, 20; and Tyler Townsend, 21; each were charged with first-degree aggravated kidnapping and aggravated assault after a 19-year-old male victim was kicked and punched Feb. 4 more than 200 times.

According to Phillips, the victim allegedly stole a small amount of cash and a small amount of marijuana from one of the suspects.

What we know about a kidnapping and assault case

On the evening of Feb. 4, the victim was approached by the suspects along South Walts Avenue in Sioux Falls, where an argument began. A neighbor nearby heard the situation, saw an assault taking place and yelled at the suspects.
