Sioux Falls restarts no‑cash panhandling campaign

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO) – Sioux Falls is restarting an education campaign urging residents not to hand out cash to homeless people. It’s a move the city says will hopefully reduce harm and educate people on other ways they can help.

The campaign runs April 15 through Aug. 15 and includes street signs, printed materials, digital advertising and educational resources on the city’s website.

“The goal of this campaign was really to spread education,” the city’s homeless coordinator Michelle Treasure said. “We were receiving a large amount of calls here at the mayor’s office, a lot of complaints.”…
