Officer shooting sparks efforts to tighten parole policy

Late last month, a police officer in Sioux Falls was shot and wounded by a suspect who was later determined to be on parole. That person has since been arrested and the officer is in stable condition despite “serious injuries.”

Gov. Larry Rhoden, while acknowledging last session was prime time to address this issue, said now it’s time to look forward.

“Hindsight’s 20/20,” Rhoden said. “We’re looking forward, we’re taking every step to foster the communication and understand the issue and bring the right people to the table to come up with solutions.”…
