Mark Twain Elementary School alumni and former teachers have unearthed history in the form of a 50-year-old time capsule containing everything from Argus Leader clippings and toys to school picture photos, boots and playground balls.
The time capsule was filled and buried May 20, 1976, during the nation’s bicentennial (200th) anniversary, and was uncovered Wednesday, May 20, as part of the nation’s semiquincentennial (250th) anniversary celebrations.
Unboxing the capsule made for a historic day to reunite old classmates, see students reconnect with former teachers and principals, and rekindle a sense of community for the old school.
