Drought persists despite recent precipitation

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO) – It has been a very dry May so far across KELOLAND but after active weather moved through earlier this week, some locations received some much needed moisture.

Check out a couple of our precipitation totals from Sunday to Monday.

Sioux Falls got a little over 1 inch of rain and the last time they received this high of an amount was at the end of April. All of these locations are in drought and with these totals factored into this week’s drought monitor update, it leaves the question of “were there any improvements?”

Unfortunately, the answer is no. Instead, drought has only expanded further north and now only about 10% of KELOLAND is not suffering from the dry conditions…
