Officials warn residents on storm safety

SPOKANE COUNTY, Wash. — With severe thunderstorms rolling into the Inland Northwest, officials with Avista, Washington State Patrol (WSP) and the Department of Natural Resources (DNR) are preparing to make sure everyone is safe.

The threats from tonight’s storms go far beyond just heavy rain. Officials are keeping a close eye on the possibility of lightning strikes, power outages and dangerous driving conditions across the Inland Northwest.

DNR says with the precipitation expected to come with tonight’s storms, as well as the rain we have been seeing across the area the last few days, they aren’t too worried about catastrophic fires…
