Spokane police: Downtown homeless ordinance sees 1,400 tickets

Spokane, Wash. — Spokane Police Chief Kevin Hall offered an update on the city’s recently enacted “Safe and Acceptable Spaces” initiative during a public safety committee briefing Monday.

Hall said city officers had issued nearly 1,400 tickets under the Safe and Accessible Spaces ordinance, with almost 61% tied to the Riverside neighborhood downtown.

Hall said the department also logged 2,600 engagements, made 1,500 service offers and saw 444 people accept some kind of help. He said those numbers came strictly from patrol officers and pointed to enforcement alongside outreach…
