SPOKANE, Wash. — A longtime volunteer who made hundreds of wooden hearts for Jefferson Elementary students got a thank-you of his own at the school’s final assembly of the year.
Families at Jefferson Elementary knew Lanny Burrill for the encouragement he shared with students through handmade gifts. For years, he had used leftover pieces from his projects at the Riverview Retirement Community workshop to create wooden hearts for children who needed a boost.
