Supporting Families in Recovery
SPOKANE, Wash. – The Spokane Regional Health District’s (SRHD’s) Women, Infant and Children Nutrition Program (WIC) is joining Maddie’s Place to take another step to eliminate health barriers faced by families in recovery. Beginning July 7, WIC will offer services on-site for the families at the recovery nursery caring for babies with prenatal substance exposure.
Moving WIC appointments on-site for families at Maddie’s Place will allow consistent access to nutrition support without leaving the wraparound care their infant needs to thrive. Having WIC services on location will allow families to receive health screenings, nutrition education, breastfeeding support, and help accessing monthly benefits while supporting recovery.
“Parents and staff at Maddie’s Place are working so hard to prioritize their baby’s care during a very stressful time,” said Mary Wood, WIC program manager. “By meeting them where they are, in a supportive and familiar environment, we can join Maddie’s Place in making the recovery process as successful as possible.”…
