Community Honors Spokane Woman Killed by Drunk Driver One Year Later

Spokane, Wash. — One year after Sarah Doxey was killed by a drunk driver while running, her community gathered to honor her memory by completing the same route at the same time she would have run it.

On the anniversary of her death, friends and family laced up their running shoes at 5 a.m. to retrace the path where Doxey, a devoted runner, was struck down. The early morning run held special significance — those close to her said her morning runs were her personal time, a cherished part of her daily routine.

“It’s hard to believe it’s been a year,” said Carolyn White, Doxey’s mother. “But to see these people, Sarah’s people, her group, come out and honor her with this run is just heartwarming. It fills my soul, lets me know that she hasn’t been forgotten.”…
