SPOKANE, WA – While assisting with operations on the Spokane Complex Fire, firefighters from Moses Lake took part in an unusual rescue mission, helping save nearly 20 koi fish from a backyard pond threatened by advancing wildfire.
According to the Moses Lake Firefighters union and Spokane Area Fires, crews from Moses Lake’s Engine company and Valley Regional Fire Authority’s Engine 338 spotted homeowners attempting to rescue their koi fish as wildfire operations continued in the area. Firefighters stopped to help, working together to safely remove approximately 19 koi fish from the pond and move them out of harm’s way.
