Unseasonably warm Sunday draws crowds outside in Spokane, impacting local skiers

SPOKANE, Wash. — As Sunday’s temperatures soared into the mid-50s, many people around Spokane got outside to enjoy the unusually warm winter’s day.

Many people were drawn to Manito Park, as were some ducks, who had plenty of water to swim in on Sunday. That field is now flooded by a few inches of water.

In downtown Spokane at Riverfront Park, it was also bustling with visitors. One family said that Sunday was a great day to get outside and skate at the Skate Ribbon.

“We’ve come to ice skate in beautiful weather,” one family said. “We have some hot chocolate ready and I don’t know if we will need it to be warm. I don’t think we need it.”

At 2:30 p.m. Sunday afternoon, it was around 55 degrees in Spokane.
