Pickleball courts coming to Spokane Public Schools

SPOKANE, Wash. — Pickleball is rapidly growing across the country, and Washington state’s official sport will soon expand in Spokane.

Spokane Public Schools is creating a total of 14 new pickleball courts across five different Spokane Public Schools.

SPS is making accommodations to existing courts at Rogers, Shadle Park and North Central High Schools to create six pickleball courts. Ferris High School and Lewis and Clark’s Hart Field will each have two courts adapted to make another eight pickleball courts.

All pickleball courts will be used for both school-based programming and the community, according to Spokane Public Schools.

“At Comstock Park, there will be 40 to 50 people playing pickleball,” Former SPS superintendent Dr. Gary Livingston said. “So those courts at the high schools will definitely be used.”

Details regarding reservations and availability are still to come, according to SPS.
