Suspect arrested and identified in toddler’s death in north Spokane

SPOKANE, Wash. —  A man connected in the death of a toddler in north Spokane on January 31 was arrested in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Major Crimes Unit detectives established probably cause to arrest John L. Jones (38) with 2nd degree murder.

Jones was arrested in the early morning hours of February 1.

He will face extradition back to Spokane in the coming days/weeks.

The Spokane Police Department says they are investigating the death of a 3-year-old boy in Spokane Wednesday night.

According to SPD, officers responded to a report of an unconscious child at a home on N. Ash Street near W. Central Avenue around 11:30 p.m.

SPD says the child was pronounced deceased at the scene.

SPD Public Information Officer Julie Humphries says the death is not considered suspicious at this time, but there is an active investigation ongoing.
