Spokane man arrested for threatening to kill someone

SPOKANE, Wash. – Spokane Police arrested a man for reportedly threatening to kill someone at a home Thursday morning.

According to SPD, officers received a domestic violence call about a person threatening to kill someone at a home on N. Helena St.

The SWAT team, hostage negotiators and Explosives Disposal Unit responded to the scene.

Police escorted all of the people from the home, including an elderly person.

Over the next several hours, officers made several attempts to arrest the suspect, but were unsuccessful despite numerous PA announcements and calls from negotiators to surrender.

Finally, officers used an EDU robot to communicate with the suspect.

Police say after a short period of time, the suspect left the home and was taken into custody.

40-year-old Ian S. Gilbertz was booked into the Spokane County Jail on felony harassment, weapons, and unlawful possession of a firearm charges.
