Jobs on the line in Reardan-Edwall school district levy

REARDAN, Wash. — Voters in the Reardan-Edwall school district will have a say on the district’s educational programs and operations replacement levy. The levy would replace one voters passed in 2021.

If it is approved, it would replace the current levy, which has dropped to $1.56 per $1,000 of assessed property value because of rising home values, and bring it back to $2 per $1,000 of assessed property value.

“This levy going to $2 will generate more funding for our district in that regard,” said Eric Sobotta, Superintendent.

But if it fails, jobs could be on the line.

Having school security has never been more important, it’s one of the major reasons why the district hopes to see its levy pass.

“The reality is if you don’t have security measures and people around to protect the children, you’re going to have you know, a Uvalde,” said Brad Eylar, Director of Security and Emergency Manager for the School District.

Eylar is in charge of implementing security measures like single-point entry, upgraded camera systems, and more.
