Pedestrian killed by vehicle, driver arrested for DUI

SPOKANE, Wash. — A woman was hit and killed by a vehicle Saturday night in Spokane. The driver was arrested for vehicular homicide.

The Spokane Police Department responded to the intersection of N. Morton Street and E. Empire Avenue around 7 p.m.

SPD says the 35-year-old victim was crossing Empire when she was hit by a vehicle driven by 70-year-old Gary Thompson. After falling, the woman was hit by a second vehicle.

She was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police say Drug Recognition Experts with SPD and Washington State Patrol determined Thompson was impaired. He was arrested for vehicular homicide.

The second driver was determined to not be impaired.
