‘Quite simply, unacceptable’: Gonzaga president speaks on student conduct at Zags, Saint Mary’s game

SPOKANE, Wash. — Gonzaga President Thayne McCulloh called the behavior from students at Saturday’s game against Saint Mary’s ” quite simply, unacceptable.”

In an email sent out to students, McCulloh said there were “expressions of profanity” toward the Saint Mary’s players and material and liquids were thrown onto the court. The back-and-forth game fell in the favor of the Gaels, who came out on top 64-62.

McCulloh said the actions of the students “impacted play and reflected a student community wholly atypical and unbecoming of our university,” negatively affecting the experience at the game.

McCulloh said the athletics department is working with Student Affairs to address students who interfered with play, saying those who acted through verbal abuse or throwing things onto the court will be held accountable.
