New owners prepare to reopen Garland Theatre

SPOKANE, Wash. — A Garland District staple is set to reopen next month with new owners and some familiar movies.

It’s all thanks to a group of locals that didn’t want to see the iconic theater go.

In 2023, Chris Bovey started a GoFundMe for the theater and later, Tyler Arnold and Jasmine Barnes teamed up with him.

When COVID-19 hit, Spokane lost stable businesses, and when they all heard the Garland was in danger of closing, they wanted to do something, and didn’t want to lose memories made at the theater.

Eventually, Jordan Tampien bought the property from the old owner, and Bovey, Arnold, and Barnes now own the Garland Theater business.

The new and improved Garland will offer some nostalgia while also offering a unique movie-going experience.

“Yeah, you’re here to see a movie, but from the moment you walk in, you’re going to see screen use movie props, vintage one sheet posters, neon all over the place, an entire feel that you just can’t see anywhere else in this town,” Arnold said.
