In a remarkable breakthrough, Spokane police have identified a suspect in the decades-old cold case of Candice Elaine “Candy” Rogers, a 9-year-old girl who was brutally murdered in 1959. The case, which had haunted the community for over six decades, saw new light as advancements in forensic technology and diligent investigative work finally brought answers to the forefront.

On a Friday evening in early March 1959, young Candy Rogers set out from her home in Spokane, Washington, to sell mints door-to-door in her neighborhood, hoping to raise funds for Camp Fire Girls. Tragically, she never returned home, sparking a massive search effort that ultimately ended in the devastating discovery of her body, sexually assaulted and strangled, in the nearby woods.

Detective Zac Storment and his team from the Spokane Police Department spearheaded the investigation and worked tirelessly to follow every lead and utilize every available resource to crack the case that had remained unresolved for over six decades.
