Bustling activity in downtown Spokane persists despite Monday’s deadly shooting

SPOKANE, Wash. — Following the second of two deadly police shootings on Monday, some are left feeling uneasy about the area and unhopeful for a return of a sprawling, safe Spokane.

However, recent data shows that violent crime such as rape, murder, assault and robbery is actually down almost 30% in the area compared to this time last year.

After Monday’s shooting in downtown Spokane, it seemed that many of the people in downtown Spokane have mixed emotions.

Despite Monday’s downtown shooting, the area remained bustling with activity on Tuesday. Hundreds of people were out and about, and many of them shared their thoughts with 4 News Now.

Some believed that what happened on Monday was just a one-off situation, but there were others who expressed concern that if it continues, it may raise additional concerns.

“It is shocking just because of the proximity of it all, it’s so close,” Raul Mendoza, who works in downtown Spokane, said. “But overall, it was kind of unexpected. Just due to the fact that, like, you don’t expect nobody getting shot around here.”
