Woman dead in northeast Spokane shooting

SPOKANE, Wash. — One woman is dead following a shooting in northeast Spokane on Friday.

According to the Spokane Police Department, police responded to reports of a shooting in northeast Spokane, and officers found the suspect vehicle, which refused to stop.

Police officers did a PIT maneuver near Springfield and Hamilton to stop the car. Police say items were thrown at officers before stopping the pursuit, with one of the recovered items being a firearm.

Police say they discovered a woman who suffered a gunshot wound to her head. Officers provided aid before medics arrived and took her to the hospital, where she was pronounced dead. The SPD Major Crimes Unit is investigating the woman’s death.

Police say the name of the woman will be released at a later date by the Spokane County Medical Examiner.

Police arrested four teenagers and booked them into the Spokane County Jail for the following charges:

  • Christopher J. Gimmaka (18 )  1 st degree attempted robbery, conspiracy to commit 1 st degree robbery and three counts of 1 st degree assault.

  • Kayden W. Willoughby (18) 1 st degree attempted robbery, conspiracy to commit 1 st degree robbery and three counts of 1 st degree assault.

  • Devin B. McEwen (18) 1 st degree attempted robbery, conspiracy to commit 1 st degree robbery, three counts of 1 st degree assault and attempt to elude a police vehicle.

  • A fourth suspect (16) booked into the Spokane County Juvenile Detention Center for 1 st degree attempted robbery, conspiracy to commit 1 st degree robbery and three counts of 1 st degree assault.
