SPOKANE, Wash – The wrecking crews started early Wednesday morning to take down a home that has sat on Spokane’s South Hill since 1906.

Known as Mary’s Place, it was a private home for decades as Providence Sacred Heart Medical Center built up around it.

Despite numerous offers by Providence to buy the property, Mary Gianetsas refused to sell. The home remained in the family for several generations.

When owner Dorothy Alex died in 2022, the home finally went up for sale and was eventually purchased by Diamond Parking.

Despite calls to save it and have it put on the historic register, crews started preparing for its demolition in recent weeks.

Diamond Parking told 4 News Now it purchased the property for $4.5 million.

At the time, Diamond Parking didn’t share additional plans, other than the company had purchased the property.
