Spokane’s biggest block party Summer Parkways kicks off on the South Hill

SPOKANE, WA – Spokane’s biggest block party kicks off today with the return of Summer Parkways.

A four-mile stretch of the South Hill will be closed to vehicle traffic, welcoming cyclists, pedestrians, skaters, and enthusiasts of all ages.

The event aims to encourage families to embrace outdoor activity and foster community spirit.

Participants can enjoy a variety of fitness activities for free throughout the event.

“It’s about community and connecting with neighbors. Many host house parties and barbecues in their front yards. It’s a wonderful way to kick off summer,” said Katherine Widing, Summer Parkways’ Public Relations Head.

Activities such as yoga, Zumba, fencing, and martial arts cater to all age groups. Attendees can join existing activities or bring equipment for their own games.

The event spans a four-mile loop through the Comstock and Manito neighborhoods, offering participants the freedom to start and stop anywhere along the route, with one rule: keep moving clockwise.
