SPOKANE, Wash. — Spokane Mayor Lisa Brown has a new proposal for the City Council to avoid the impending closure of Hope House.
This proposal includes a one-time grant of $1.2 million for Volunteers of America to keep Hope House open. Mayor Brown said the funding comes from monthly cost caps that were put in place over the City’s Trent Resource and Assistance Center contract.
“Volunteers of America is confident that Mayor Brown and the Council are aligned on ensuring that women at Hope House have stability throughout the fiscal year,” said Volunteers of America CEO Fawn Schott.
Hope House is an emergency homeless shelter for women. According to its website, Hope House provided shelter for more than 500 women last year.
The non-profit has 100 shelter beds and provides clothing, case management, community resources and connection to permanent housing for every woman who goes through its doors.
According to the press release from Mayor Brown’s office, VOA plans to replace current shelter operations with stabilization and respite care in the coming year.
