SPOKANE, Wash. — Drivers heading west on Mission Avenue near Spokane Community College may need to find another way home.
Road construction on northbound Market Street is sending drivers to Perry Street to cross the Spokane River, causing major backups.
The detour begins at Mission and northbound Greene Street.
The closest river-crossing and main road is northbound Perry Street.
The City of Spokane said the detour is not ideal for traffic, especially because of a busy bus stop and train rails that drivers must pass.
The city recommends taking I-90 and crossing the Spokane River at Argonne Road, or taking downtown bridges like Division or Hamilton.
No matter which detour you take, expect to add a few minutes to your commute.
Market Street is set to reopen on September 6.
